Congo watermelon seeds are known to produce large watermelons that measure approximately 27" in length and 12" in width, weighing around 40 lbs. The thick rind of these watermelons makes them ideal for shipping, while the firm, medium-red flesh is incredibly sweet.

For those in cooler climates, it is recommended to start Congo watermelon seeds indoors about a month before transplanting. Plant three seeds per peat pot, 1/4" deep, and provide heat to maintain soil temperature at 80-85 degrees F. Once true leaves appear, thin out all but the strongest seedling and transplant about a week after the last frost. Each hill should have two or three plants with 6-8' of space in all directions.

In warmer climates, watermelons can be directly sown once the soil temperature reaches at least 75 degrees F. Plant six seeds per hill with the same spacing and thin to the strongest two or three plants after the seedlings emerge. Watermelons thrive in full sun and nutrient-rich, loose soil.
