The early variety has smooth, spherical, black-green fruits with a waxy coating. The peel has no mesh or pattern, and the bright red pulp is grainy, tender, juicy, and sweet, with excellent taste. The average fruit weight is 6-9 lbs, and the variety is resistant to fusarium and anthracnose. In northern regions, it is recommended to grow through seedlings.

To plant, try the paper towel technique. Tear a paper towel in half and moisten one half. Place four or five seeds on the moistened half and fold the other half over the seeds. Place the paper with seeds in a clear, sandwich-sized zip-close bag and reseal. Put the bag in a location out of direct sunlight at room temperature. The bag acts like a miniature greenhouse that retains heat and moisture, and seeds should sprout in about five to seven days.

Make mounds that are approximately 2 feet across at the top and 8 to 12 inches high using a hoe. The mounds of loose soil help roots become established and allow excess water to drain. Level the top of each mound and poke four equally-spaced holes in the leveled-off soil. Deposit one seed in each hole and lightly rake the soil to cover the seeds, being careful not to disturb them. Lightly pack the soil to prevent the seeds from drying out too quickly when watered.
